Guinea Pigs
Page 1 (Guinea Pig - Guinea Pig)
|
Natives in South American long grassy fields or abandoned burrows, guinea pigs were eaten as food. Later, these rodent-type pets akin to a mouse, beaver, or hamster were traded worldwide; they are not a pig at all, but named so for their pig-like squeal. These very shy animals spend a lot of time hiding and eat at dusk or dawn, when other animals find it harder to see them. Guinea pigs make very good beginner pets.
